I hear that the Portas initiative is setting up pop-up units in the former Bells Bookshop, anybody confirm? I am told that the rent for a space is £ 30, obviously a bargain for some small traders / designers - can't help but wonder how long standing, and long paying small businesses will feel.

Hope it is a success and give locals a chance to show their wares ! In todays paper Mr Robertson said he was offered a shop on the high street at a cost of £35.000 per year almost ten times what he pays in west street . Whos gonna pay that amount ?? Also see theres a "shop to let " above the YMCA charity shop --is this also gonna close

Surely this is not true, is he only paying £ 3 500 a year for a Department Shop rent - £ 70 a week? You cannot rent a house in the area for that!

I walk my dog at spittal and 3 days last week there was a traffic warden putting tickets on cars parked along the prom, they was along by the hairdressers, folk in wheelchairs couldn't get passed, all the parking bays were full, dear day at the beach, I asked him how much the fines were £70 or if the paid in 2 weeks it was £35 mind there was spaces along main st. but folk divn't want to walk

A lot of people just canna be bothered to walk any further than necessary and would rather take the chance of no getting caught !!
