they could just modernise Berwick infirmary, put in a resident doctor, and open it up at night.asda has better opening hours than berwick infirmary.! its a bad job when a 90 yr old needs a couple of stitches in a wound and has to travel to wansbeck in the middle of the nite to have it done. or wait on a doctor travellng up from the newcaste area with a driver .the doctor gets paid approx £100 per hour and quite often can hardly speak english. ITS MAD!

The reason we have these docs is coz the Berwick ones opted out of providing after hrs care and now the docs at tweedmouth hav said they will not be covering the hospital at all. The minor injuries unit is open 24/7

Thats right they will not admit them but thy will be treated a in the minor injury unit and if the nurse or doc on duty thinks they need down the road they go unless it was at the start of this week when wansbeck was full so everything was going to BGH

well weve never been able to get anybody treated at B I not even for minor injury so unless the paramedics can treat them its off down the road . even the out of hours district nurses are based this side of newcastle and only2 nurses cover the area from there up to berwick, over by wooler, rothbury and sometime as far as hexham area. thats bad!

I may be wrong here but as far as I am aware there is a doc in the hospittal till midnight then it is covered by nordoc out of Long Benton. If an ambulance is called to treat someone the crew make the decision what hospittal they are going to usually Wansbeck but can be borders or the Royal at Edinburgh, it is unusual for an ambulance to go to Berwick as it is classed if you need an ambulance it is not a minor injury

ive been told the 24/7 finishes at 8pm but if a doc is still there you may be lucky
