From The Berwick Advertiser: BERWICK'S Chamber of Trade has pledged £1000 towards the cost of this year's Christmas lights in the town. A public appeal was launched last week after a public meeting called by Berwick Town Council heard that despite £5340 from Northumberland County Council, there was not enough money in the kitty to cover the cost of the display. it's not the chamber of trade that donates or the cooncil, those lights in the high street are 100 years old...........or near enough but suppose we're lucky to have any at all

If more people in the town were to help maybe we might have a better display. The main problem with the main street is that it is full of multipls and charity shops who will not or can not help out. The roatry club pay for the lights on new bridge and scotsgate but it costs about £1750 to have them put up and taken down which has to come out of the light budget, the tree however is fully funded by the roatry club. the main problem with the lights in town is the fact that power loop is over 20 yrs old and a lot of the sockets are u/s and this is causing the light fittings to blow, so the 1st thing that needs to be done is this renewed but that is going to cost 1 hell of a lot

funny how other places can manage berwicks always the worst off in everything, anyways lights or no i'll not be shopping in berwick wouldn't give my money to the chamber of turd they've done a lot of damage and we live in a beautiful historic town but they've always looked after they're own interests them and the civic society can't see beyond the end of theyr'e noses, a retail park would do no harm to the town and bring much needed work and that's badly needed
