A carer has been jailed for 4 months after physically and verbally abusing an elderly lady in a care home . no much of a sentence for terrifying a little old woman !! Hope they close down the home as well !!

i saw the video they took with a hidden camera, it's awful when you cannae trust folk poor old soul she had dementia and they're looking for another care home to put the old lady, you know it's not a job you do for money it's a calling like nursing, if your not cut out to care you shouldn't be in that job a friend of mine was a builder, last person i thought would be a carer but he left the building trade and now he's a bloody good carer and suppose he gets less pay too

it's no use saying if they paid the carers more folk would get better care coz you either have an empathy for caring or you don't, it's not just a job it's a calling or it should be but they deserve every penny they get and should be better paid

I loved doing that job and yes old folk can get a bit funny at times but it is very easy to walk away from a situation like that and watch at a safe distance till they calm down . But the funny incidents far outweigh the others .Had loads of laughs wi old folks at Seton Hall-most old people have a great sense of humour !!

The fact that carers barely get minimum wage, shows the value we place on our auld yins. When you pay minimum wage for any profession you get minimum wage workers. Sadly, like it or not, a lot of people who work for these wages do so because they can't get a higher paid job, empathy or not. By raising the basic wage for carers, the competition becomes more intense for the available jobs, allowing the homes to really be picky with who they employ. Until then, we get what we get, and hope for the best.
Luckily, it seems to be only isolated instances of abuse, highlighted by the media. But saying that, the more the abuse is highlighted, the more transparent the homes have to become.

All homes seem to have a high turnover of staff cos as you say a lot of people dont have another option if theyre desperate for a job . then as soon as something a little bettr comes along theyre off !!A constant change of staff isnt so good for the residents tho !!
