At 00:45am this morning, Tuesday March 20, police received a report of a collision on the A1 near to Fenwick.
The collision involved a HGV lorry and a car.
At the time of the collision the HGV was travelling south and the car North.
The driver of the lorry suffered minor injuries, was treated at hospital and later released.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are still at the scene and a section of the road remains closed.
Diversions have been put in place to allow for collision investigation and vehicle recovery.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191.

sad news , but unfortunately it will happen again and again until the government takes a look at themselves and decide to dual it

Travel this road a couple of times a year when I vist from Lincoln. It is shocking to think one of the main routes from England to Scotland is still not dualled in 2012! The journey is fine (apart from roadworks) until you hit Newcastle then it's heavy traffic (to be expected) and afterwards long patches of road where overtaking is impossible or too risky. North of Norfolk the government is not interested. No wonder Scotland wants self rule.
