Is it actually worth it to become a Berwick Councilor, or MP? We all readily accuse them of ineptitude, allude to them being corrupt, and consider them, at best, stupid or even ignorant; yet few are willing to take on the role. It seems a bit daft to be deriding people for doing a job, which we ourselves will not do. Furthermore, I bet very people actually vote in the local elections. Imagine if they have been doing the best job possible and we actually have it as good as it can be. I say so, because it is not as if other Border towns, of the same size, are far above us in relation to commerce, crime, and investment.

Yes, they are the target of vitriol, but are they doing it for the love of the town? I seem to recall that our local councillor was getting in excess of £40k a year, and I am sure he is not alone. Coincidentally, this same chap didn't realise that I lived in his ward, obviously a man who takes an interest in the neighbourhood - I've lived here 10 years and he lives in the next street! There again it doesn't seem 10 years since he moved to Berwick.

It seems to me, that once you decide you no longer care about voting, you have also decided that you are no longer care enough to complain, if and when, things go against you.

So....the Tories are privatising OUR NHS Complain Folks!!! Half a million people have now signed the petition to save our NHS - will you? www.38degrees.org.uk/page/s/Protect_our_NHS_Petition#petition

I am not 100% against privatisation of industries, especially when the industry is being run badly, losing unnecessary money, and becoming unwieldy. In this case, the Tories don’t actually want to privatise, they want it to be run more efficiently, and I reckon that’s a sentiment shared by everyone.

The problem with the Liberal Democrats is, because they are the middle ground between Labour and the conservatives, both sides always expects them to agree with them, when it comes to a bi-partisan issue. If they agree with one over the other, however, they are turncoats or sellouts, and when they agree with neither, they are differing and weak.

The NHS isn't an "industry" - it's a health care service. It was set up after world war 2 to provide universal health care for all - previous to the NHS being set up, only the rich got treatment and medecines - everyone else just suffered or died. The NHS belongs to the british people, not the tories. It's priorities have to be patient care first, free at the point of need. It should never be about profit and shareholder dividends first. There are some things which it is right to fund publicly - and the NHS is one of them. Lansley is laying the foundations for privatisation. If you want to know what the Tories are REALLY doing here - google Oliver Letwin or Daniel Hannan......

Thank you kindly for quoting, maybe unnecessarily, my previous message. Thank you also for the NHS, history lesson. To address my previous comments first, you’ll find that I never said that the NHS was an industry, just that I am not 100% against privatization. I also, made no comment, implied or otherwise, that the NHS belonged to shareholders, the Tories, or indeed anyone. I did, however, say and stand by my comments that the NHS needs to be more efficient. I, and I am sure many people also see, money wasted left right and center in NHS facilities, money that can be spent on nurses, equipment, and other vital services of which the NHS used to, and could again, be famous for. As long as we continue on, in our proud nationalistic hands-offs, approach to the NHS every one is cheated. The workers, the patients and we ourselves are being cheated by expensive cost-cutting, bureaucracy, and miles of pointless red-tape. As for the two MP’s you mention. I was aware of them, but agree with neither, though if I was forced to pick one over the other I would choose Daniel Hannan for his views on local authorities and The European Union. I could not, however, tell if you meant for me to be insulted by them or to feel kinship, either way, I see them as pretty reprehensible but that’s politics for you. The majority decides and everyone else takes a kick in the guts for 4 years.
