TRADERS in Berwick have been counting the cost of a disastrous fortnight in which snow has scuppered what should be their busiest time of the year.
The wintry onslaught, which shows no sign of abating, has decimated takings at the till and left shopkeepers praying for a rush before Christmas.
“Everyone is toiling at the moment,” admitted Wendy Weddell, chairman of Berwick Chamber of Trade. “When people are able to get out and about they are buying essentials such as bread and milk but they’re not Christmas shopping.”
