We had a poll recently on the BunnyBoard to find out which browser is used by members.
I've subsequently been doing some personal testing of the 4 main Browsers: Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera. I've tested these both at home with a full BT Wireless Router and on the road using a Vodafone Dongle. My opinion, for what it's worth, is set out below. I would be very interested in hearing of your own experiences/opinions!
Internet Explorer 8
After trying all the others, I've gone back to using IE8 at home. It's probably the one that uses the most resource, and it can hang occasionally, but I like it. It also seems to work well in partnership with McAfee total protection, and pops up messages like "IE was stopped to protect your computer" - this doesn't happen with any of the others and leaves me wondering what nasties will get through if I use one of the others?
Mozilla Firefox
Faster than IE8 and easy to use. You can also choose a dinky little picture to act as a kind of border. The latest version doesn't seem to call for you to download add-ons every time you do something (I'm one of those people who is averse to downloading ANYTHING unless I absolutely have to). Nice.
Google Chrome
Probably the fastest so far and operates with the least fuss. Does strange things to Proboards messages, stretching boxes etc - but maybe it just does it to me. I tend to use this one when I'm on the road using a dongle and getting a GPRS signal because it seems to require the least computer resource to support it's operation, and of course, is faster. However if I get a 3G signal on the dongle, I revert to IE8.
Opera
Claims to be the fastest - it's not. Very unreliable. Waste of space. I don’t trust this one.
