From The Berwick Advertiser: VANDALS destroyed visitor information displays at the Coastwatch lookout tower on the Magdalene Fields in Berwick on Saturday night. Flower beds were also wrecked and 'original' old photographs of the lookout spot in its wartime days were ripped up. Station manager, Leslie Wooler, said he was 'sickened' by the act which had caused an estimated £350 damage. Thing is....the coastwatch people are all volunteers It's a shame when folks do this sort of stuff, they probably begin to wonder if they're appreciated... |

hope whoever it was gets stuck out in the north sea in a little boat with no paddles on a very stormy day. then theyll know exactly how important the coastguards are theyve got no respect for owt  Just a point please do not confuse coastwatch with the coastguards. Coastwatch is a small gruop of people who man,on a very pert time basis, the old lookout at the golf club, they pass on ant sightings to the Coastguard who are resposible for safety at sea and co-ordinate all sea rescues |
