What is wrong with this town's council/Housing association, This hasn't just come to my attention its been stewing for weeks now;
First of all i would like question the BBH's decision in appointing Gentoo to carry out there improvement contracts, this is a company based in Sunderland who have a 5 year deal with the housing association,I'm led to believe that these two company's are somehow financially tied so therefore it was inevitable who would be awarded the contract no matter tendered a price. So on winning this contract if i remember correctly there was a stipulation in the contract of 10% of the workforce being local! which is fair enough but 10% is only 1 in 10 so on a job where 20 maybe present this is 2 people and there is no stipulation on them having to be tradesmen. As far as I'm concerned there are only the 2 local people on the books with Gentoo and these 2 are laborers. So my question is if there is 5 years worth of improvements to be carried out why didn't our lovely LOCAL HOUSING ASSOCIATION set up a limited building company where they could use 100% tradesmen from the local area thus all money earned by our local trades people with be put back into our local economy again keeping business' in Berwick going and not stimulating Sunderlands!!!. It also bring another question IF the 3 rivers group are non profit making company's and are tied with Gentoo in some way or the other someone must be filling there pockets with the money which is being spent on the improvements. And before we go down the K###n D###n line yes he has sub contracted some of the revite but come on who is he kidding we have already had people on here moaning about the mess his boys left. His boys coincidently which consists of a charge hand running the job who got finished from nearly every electricians in berwick for being useless and he was only a laborer then there are his "tradesmen" I could confidently say that 70% of his workforce have never served there time yet still are let loose to carry out improvements in our homes as rough as they want its a scandal. You go into the job center or walk around berwick and the quality of some of the tradesmen who ain't working is ridiculous yet there are these "Berwick & Sunderland cowboys" running riot on our house's. I do know the tradesmen with the berwick company and they are decent chaps i dint complain about these good luck to them!! but these are peoples homes we shouldn't have any tom dick and harry allowed in!! surely we should be asking to see there papers with there qualification on before they are allowed in to our homes. I know in the city you have to carry around with you your trade card! and before anyone jumps on me I'm not on about the health and safety, I'm on about a card you get from your qualification when you have spent 5 years on shit money just to get shit on by cowboys and chancers!!
Secondly; Regarding the renovation of the granary in Berwick again a company from out of town again only using tradesmen from their town and surrounding area (apart from a local plumber sub contracting). This company are from the Borders and will be taking the £4 million from english grants back over the border where again the Kelso economy will be benefitting and not ours.So why when the contract was negotiated did the councils not stipulate that again local tradesmen should benefit from the project!!! I personally find it scandalous they just aint interested in us local tradesmen the majority of whom i believe you wont get much better!!!!
Rant over sorry for going on but im just sick of the real decent people of this town losing out to our MP's, local council' and local chancers incompitance
